This question results from the widely (but wrongly) held belief that the arts are the CAUSE of societal behaviors. Sociologists and historians have long been well aware of the FACT that the arts do NOT cause social change -- they merely REFLECT it!
RAP, tatooes, burn scarring, body piercing, violence against women and children, recreational drug use, and all of our other "social ills" are NOT causes, -- they are REFLECTIONS of what is already going on in society!
To discover CAUSES people must look at what has changed in family structure, child care, work environments, discretionary income, politics, health care, and most of all, the QUALITY OF EDUCATION!
History will probably show that this period in American society was riddled with loss of strong moral values, lowered educational expectations, and many other symptoms of the decline of family structure, political integrity, and willingness of the population to accept personal responsibility for individual behaviors.
And finally, religion is NOT the answer, -- things like honesty, integrity, reason, social responsibility, logic, and LOVE are! To the extent that religion leads us to these things, it is very useful.

Rap music isn't good nor bad for society... The really bad for society is people...
Some rap music has quite specific lyrics, and in some cases it can talk about benefits of being a gangsta and so on, of course, it could be bad for childs and other kind of people more influential, but it isn't worse than some punk, heavy or black metal lyrics. Here in Spain, I have heard music groups doing a total apology of terrorism and also Nazi's groups talking about killing of other races. This is the problem of expression liberties, if you can say whatever you want, the others can do the same...
I don't think rap is bad for society, at least not for adult society, and in the case of children their parents should control what they buy to them, for teens is different, but not everybody get influenced so easily, think about it, 50 or 60 years ago, didn't exist rap/punk or other kind of 'radical' music, but always have existed people who were more violent, wanted to earn money easily and so on...

I remember my father not liking 'my music.' by him regardless of the undeniable fact that, I discovered to savour all varieties of music. the only varieties I nonetheless do in comparison to are the previous type 'united states and western' (like the Hank Snows and Randy Travis form..people who sing by their noses) opera, (the Italian variations...don't understand the words and dislike the making a music..the music is great) and the irritating middle rap. there is a few rap i'm able to have a good time with extremely nicely. The property you're talking approximately, I agree. there is surely no reason to apply language like that. i might in no way call my spouse a ho, nor might i take advantage of mf or n, no count who i replaced into with. How can one rather have relaxing on a date whilst that form of positioned down is blasting on your ears? So I accept as true with your suggestions..and people who recognize me recognize i'm very open minded.
