A Candymaker in Indiana wanted to make a candy
that would be a witness, so he made the Christmas Candy Cane.
He incorporated several symbols for the birth, ministry, and
death of Jesus Christ.
He began with a stick of pure white,
hard candy. White to symbolize the Virgin Birth and
the sinless nature of Jesus and hard to symbolize the
Solid Rock, the foundation of the Church, and
firmness of the promise of God.
The candymaker made the candy in the form
of a "J" to represent the precious name of Jesus
who came to earth as our Savior. It could also
represent the staff of the "Good Shepherd"
with which He reaches down into the ditches of the
world to lift out the fallen lambs who, like all sheep,
have gone astray.
Thinking that the candy was somewhat plain,
the candymaker stained it with red stripes. He used three small
stripes to show the stripes of the scourging Jesus received
by which we are healed. The large red stripe was for
the blood shed by Christ on the cross so that we could
have the promise of eternal life.
it is stupid to keep candy canes out of school

As far as religion in the candy cane goes: The white the purity we have in God,and the red represents the blood of Jesus when he died on the Cross for our sins, and the hook is actually a J for Jesus. There are some other things i just can't remember, there might be something about the twists representing the trinity but I'm not sure.I am what you would say "religious"as in i believe in God, and I'm a Christian, but i also agree with you!! That is stupid that the candy was brought home!! because yes originally it was a candy that told a "religious" story, but now it's just that, a candy. So unless they were going to preach about it, who would think any thing of it.I would say that that decision was made because someone is control happy!!! Oh, and it's not really the religions fault it's the people that are against the religion. You don't see Christians or Jews saying "this needs to be a Christmas party" or "no it should be a Hanukkah party".it's the people that say make it fare for everyone.Political Correctness has gotten out of hand for everyone!!!

Candy canes are religious? I think of them as winter candies appropriate for everyone. I never heard of that at all. My kids schools always had holiday parties and always had small symbolic things from several holidays ( not religious...just symbolic)
I would not go as far as saying any fun is ruined though. Candy canes or lack thereof wont ruin a good time.

Candy Canes are a symbol of the sheperds crook from the sheperds in the nativity. Tell the woman to get peppermint disks or puffs next time.

i read somewhere once that the man who invented candy canes made it a j to represent Jesus and it hangs upside down which is representative of a shephards crook, also the red is supposed to symbolize the blood of jesus and the white is to represent how pure he is....or something..thats what i read once and the fact that they arent allowed in a kids school is absolutely the most rediculous thing ive ever heard...but are there even christmas trees there to hang them on, b.c if they arent allowing candy canes there probably arent christmas trees...that may be the real reason theyre being sent home

I am not religious, so if it was a sign of religion, then I probably wouldn't know about it...but then again I don't exactly study up on the meaning of seasonal candies.......

I'm with you on this one. If people started having more Faith and less Religion, this world would be a much better place.
