The same reason so many people buy those magazines about celebrities. In our society, we know more about the people on TV and in movies than we know about our neighbors. I think we feel like we need to live vicariously through celebrities, and know exactly what's going on with them, even though it doesn't matter to us personally. It's weird, and, I think, a little sad.

Various reasons. Some simply enjoy trying to find gossip. Others are simply curious. For some, finding an aspect of someone else's life that they are able to identify with gives them inspiration to strive for better things within their own life.
The reasons will vary as much as humanity itself varies.

People just want to relate to somebody, plus the gay's dont have many actors that are out. the huy from Gray's Anatomy is gay, i knew that the first episode

Mostly curiousity and the desire to gossip. Tabloids sell the best when the head lines are 'scandolous' so they feed the frenzy. And they are selling papers to only a scant few- most people don't give a damn.

It's just a fantasy some people have. For gay people, it's a connection to their fame. For the hets, it's just one more person to persecute.
