What are those people talking about, if it's on the shelf in the store now , there is no reason it shouldn't keep at your home, too, as long as your house isn't insanely hot. My son is still working on Halloween candy and it's fine.

Heck, the question I want to know is "If I got candy now would it stay good until Halloween?" Just kidding! Although those after holiday sales are always so tempting when you have tons of trick-or-treaters. . .
Yes, I agree with the answer that if it's on the stores shelf now, it's going to keep well until Christmas whether it's at the store or in your home. As long as it's kept in a cool, dry area and away from hungry chocolate monsters!

If you got chocolate candy now... would it even stay at all until Christmas??? Not at my house! :0) Seriously, there is a good way to store the candy and it shouldn't go bad in a month if kept in an airtight container somewhere there isn't too much heat or moisture. I've tried refrigeration and freezing, freezing works best, but there is the little white spot that shows up on frozen chocolate, like when it is thawing and has a moisture drop on it! So, the best way I could think of is to keep it in a cool dry place in an airtight rubbermaid/ tupperware container where no one else knows where it will be kept! At my house, someone else would have to hide it... if I knew where it was, it would be gone too fast! Or else I would forget where I put it... and have to hunt it down! ;)

Sure it would,do you know that most candy companies make their Holiday candy way in advance? Masterfoods aka M&M makes their candy about six months to a year ahead of time, then keeps it in storage until time to ship to stores.Just don't leave it where sunlight or heat will get to it,then it will melt(common sense) If you put it in refrigerator,it will turn "chalky" so leave out on counter top or whatever. How long do you think stores keep their candy for the upcoming Holidays? They store it in warehouses until time to put it in their stores. Also have you ever noticed how most stores have chocolate, etc candy on sale AFTER a Holiday and people still buy and eat it? What about that Easter candy you can STILL find in some stores on sale.........LOL

It really depends on what type of chocolate candy...
For instance, individually wrapped candies comprised of straight-up chocolate should be totally fine as long as they are kept in a cool, dry place.
Something like a truffle or fudge, however, you might want to purchase a bit closer to "the big day" and keep in the fridge until it's time to do the delicious giving.
Good luck and happy holiday!

Regular chocolate does not need to be kept in the freezer if it is fresh and you intend on eating it during the Christmas season. (keeping it cool will be fine) If you put it in the freezer or fridge you may notice a thin white film on it from the change in temperature. (not to be confused with the thicker white film that occurs when it is too old) Truffles or fudge should be bought closer to the time you need it.

Packaged candy that you get in the drugstore or Walmart should be fine (it lasts for months). Candy that you buy from a counter that is put in a box by the clerk should be consumed in 2 weeks or less.
