Well, usually for me anyway, when i am trying to break a habit by modifying it or changing it I don't put a time table on it. I found that it takes the pressure off of me when I solve it this way. If I put on a time table then if for some reason either because I fall backwards or don't try very hard then I dissappoint myself and become discouraged. So I would say try as long as it takes you to change a habit. That is hard work and if someone is thinking of trying that they should be cheered on. It takes a big person to admit that they need to change something. If you feel that it is life threatening for example then talk to someone who can help you work on it right away.
Good luck. It isn't easy remember so don't beat yourself up. I am answering this question on the basis of someone having habits they want to change.

Not many days, it all depends on what new habit you're about to embark on. remember repitition is the mother of success.
