There is really no trick to it.
But I will assume that you have run into problems, which complicates things.
Make sure other anti-virus and/or install protection is turned off. Install tracking is usually ok as long as it don't actively block the process. (recommended to completely uninstall old anti-virus, reboot, delete all its folders, then do a registry clean). Some mother boards have built in virus protection so look for that at reboot by going into the bios and make sure it is turned off too.
Try again.
For Windows NT, 2000, XP, and 2003
If you are still having problems delete the (applications that are not installed) folders hidden in Documents and Settings under your profiles; All Users; and Administrator; under Application Data; Local Settings\Application Data and in the temp folders for unwanted remnents. Turn on checkdisk with fix by right clicking the C:\ drive in My Computer, Properties, open the tools tab, Error Checking, (don't worry about bad sectors now it takes too long) reboot then do another registry clean.
For Windows 9x, and ME, Profiles are in the Windows directory.

Try again.
If you are still having problems check for folders hidden in C:\Program Files\Common Files\___ (you can also check the install log to see what, if any files are installed anywhere else; such as c:\windows\system32...)
Anytime you are deleting directories do a chkdsk with fix, reboot, and a registry clean.
Sometimes software won't install from the CD, so I make a new directory on the C:\ (root)drive and copy the files from the CD into it. You can delete this folder when done.
Pay attention to any information boxes that pop up and keep them up long enough to copy the error code, then look it up on the net (the same info box will appear the next time it fails to install).
If all that fails you probly have a bad copy, so get a new one.

I don't use Macfee. The norm, is that you download, and open the file and follow the wizard installer instructions for installation of the software into your system. Some software requires a reboot to complete installation others don't. The wizard installer will tell you installed or reboot to complete installation.

Introduction

Mcafee is a program designed to identify and clean your system of potentially harmful computer viruses. A virus is a program that is loaded into your computer and runs without your knowledge. A worm is a special type of virus. Viruses can replicate, use up memory, modify or damage your computer software and transmit to others across the network.

Many viruses are disguised as email attachments, so it is important to beware of any email with an attachment. You should not open an email attachment unless you are expecting the file and know it is from a reliable source. The newer versions of Outlook have an option to scan emails as you download them or to run a scan from within the Outlook program. This handout will help you install and configure Mcafee to work with your email client to keep your computer clean from infection.

The University of Florida has a site license for McAfee Anti-Virus software. Faculty, staff and students may obtain the software from the UF Software CD or from http://www.software.ufl.edu/mcafee/. If you need help using McAfee or identifying and removing a computer virus, please call the UF Computing Help Desk at 392-HELP.

Installing McAfee from the UF Software CD

Mcafee can be installed from the UF Software CD. Be sure that you have the most recent version of the software engine on the latest version of the CD. The UF Software CD can be purchased from the UF Bookstore Technology Hub for a minimal charge.

The instructions below describe how to install the software with the email scan option. On Windows computers you should also make a bootable disk that contains the antivirus software.

# From the UF software CD press the “software” button. Then press “programs and utilities” and finally click on the Mcafee tab at the top of the screen.
# Press the “multiplatform” button to begin installation. If you have windows ME then click the ME installation option.
# When the wizard comes up select “custom installation” and then click next (You may have to click next a few times to get to this option.)
# In custom installation make sure that “email scan” is selected for installation. You can get to it by clicking the “+” next to “download scan and internet filter.” Basically, make your window look like the one below. Then click “next”
# Click “install”
# When virus scan configuration comes up, put a check in the box next to "scan boot disk on startup". Click next.
# On the next window select “wait and run auto-update later.” Click next.

if your pc is set to auto-run when a cd-rom is put in the drive it should start by itself and present a installation screen, just click thru the screens and it will be installed.
if its not loading click start, run than browse, find your drive for cd-rom (d perhaps?) and open that, you should find a exe file or installer there double click that and it should start

Stick the CD in the drive. The install should launch automatically. If it doesn't, open My Computer, then your CD-Rom drive and double-click on Setup.exe.
