It's a strategy used by Real Madrid in Florentino Pérez years.
I read some information on wikipedia, but I don't seem to get it. I would also want to know the specific meaning of "Zidanes"

I mean why is the word zidanes used instead of zidane? and if it really means zidane, does it mean something like the team's built around zizou?

It was not a comercial strategy. Is was the idea of which hiring strategy should the club follow in order to win matches, because the superstars (Zidane and the others) were loosing combativeness, and the idea of introducing "Pavones" (homegrown fooball player, refering to Francisco Pavón, one of them) who were supposed to fight harder in order to get their place in the main team.

Real Madrid: A contingency theory explanation of how to fail

Florentino Pérez has had a good deal say about strategic management since he became President of Real Madrid. He coined the phrase "Zidanes y Pavones" to describe the admixture of international superstars and home-grown soldiers designed to enchant the fans, secure world markets, and win football titles. He instituted a policy of a yearly signing of a "galáctico" and wooed and won Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo and Beckham. The strategy was simple. Hire the best offensive players in the world, build the marketing machine, become rich, hire more great players …Zinedine Zidane, I think he is the French soccer player

It means 'Zidanes and Pavons'. Perez wanted his squad to be a mixture of superstar galaticos ('Zidanes') and homegrown, academy trained youngster ('Pavons', referring to defender Francisco Pavon).

It backfired because the team could not gel.

That's the understanding I get.
