Check your bathroom and see if it is your toilet running. The flap might not have seated properly that last time it was flushed. Check outside taps. Hot water heater. Washing machine lines. Pipes in your basement or crawl space.

Its called Plumbing. Most houses built have this. Water runs thru the pipes (or plumbing) to make water magically appear at the turn of a knob. If you find water appearing without turning anything on then call a plumber.

If you have an ice maker in your fridge that is it. Ours is loud when filling the trays.
