Drop for drop, the top three are Oxyuranus microlepidotus (Inland taipan), Pseudonaja textilis (Eastern brown snake) and Oxyuranus scutellatus (Coastal taipan). The inland and coastal taipan, however, both inject considerably more venom than the eastern brown.
As for human lethal doses, this is extrapolated from mouse LD-50s (the amount of venom it would take to kill half the mice injected). Thus, the Inland taipan has a lethal dose of less than 1 milligram.... the average milking venom yeild is is 44 mg with a max of 110 mg. The amount injected in a bite is about a third of this, so... you can expect to recieve from an adult inland taipan somewhere between thirteen and thirty lethal doses. The eastern brown snake has a lethal dose of about half of that of the inland taipan but injects far far less venom (average milking from 4 mg from sourthern variants to 35 that I have gotten from big queenland speciments). The coastal taipan is about half as toxic as the eastern brown but can yeild between 100-400 mg in a single milking, so could hit you with between 8 to 40 lethal doses!!! Doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that a bite by a big coastal taipan is the worst bite you could expect to get.

The most venomous (not poisonous, poison is a vague term and generally is ingested or absorbed, venom is a biologically produced enzyme-based mixture that must enter the bloodstream to be effective) is the inland taipan ("fierce snake") as others have mentioned. In terms of the "deadliest," the most deaths are caused by the Russell's viper and varous cobra species in highly populated areas in their range.

Tia pan Viper! but...there's several factors that has to go into the equation like the sea snake someone answered...that person is right but the chance of getting bit is very slim. On the other hand, The Puff Adder kills more people in a year even though it's venom is a hemotoxin due to exposure to people. The mamba, red belly black snake and the common brown are extremely dangerous and their venom is a neurotoxins and can kill you in minutes by shutting down your nervous system.

The inland taipan is deadly and, drop-for-drop, produces the most lethal poison of any snake in the world. Mercifully, O. microlepidotus only lives in the arid deserts of central eastern Australia and no human death has been reported from its bite

The inland taipan. This is what I read on various internet sites. You may carry out some research yourself. I'm not a specialist in the area and in the country where I live (Mauritius) there is no snake at all.
