World War I started because of a Prussian mentality that Germany should control the world. The Prussians were a militaristic group that settled in what we now know as Germany. In multiple wars they eventually gave up land and the country of Germany was established.

The Prussian mentality came back into being since for thousands of years one empire or another ruled the world. The Germans decided that it was their turn.

World War II started because one crazy man who fought in World War I felt that the job was not completed. He led the country into a second attempt at taking over the world.

Take care,
Troy

It started because Germany was getting too big for its britches; it was expanding. Plus, you had conflict between Serbia and Austrio-Hungary that was made worse by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by Serbian terrorist Gavrilo Princip. There are a whole host of other reasons that would take me forever to mention here.

WWII also had a long, laundry list of causes including Hitler's rise to power and his disdain for the Treaty of Versailles that ended WWI (which emasculated Germany to the point of monetary inflation to pay for the exaggerated cost of the first war).

If you google this stuff, you will get more information. I would suggest these books if you are interested:

*Between Two Fires by David Clay Large - This is an awesome book that your local library might carry. It talks about the interwar period between the first two World Wars and the tension building up to the second World War.

*Anything by Hew Strachan and John Keegan - These guys are experts at WWI and WWII military history. Look them up at your local library. Also look up Barbara Tuchman since she has a couple of books on WWI, too.
