Within my reach!
I could have touched!
I might have chanced that way!
Soft sauntered thro' the village --
Sauntered as soft away!
So unsuspected Violets
Within the meadows go --
Too late for striving fingers
That passed, an hour ago!

i need to illustrate an implied meaning of this poem.
can anyone find an implied meaning.. and if u can, please tell what would illustrate this meaning.
thanks

Emily Dickinson never married and lived with her sister in Amherst, Massachusetts. This poem seems to be about her sense of missed opportunity. The line:

I could have touched!
I might have chanced that way!

sets the tone of the poem...The violets, which remain in the field, might have been part of a bouquet, if someone had thought to pick them. Instead, they remain in the field:

Too late for striving fingers
That passed, an hour ago!

But I like to see this undercut by the image of Emily Dickinson herself, the Belle of Amherst, as she "Soft sauntered thro' the village--" Indifferent to whether she receives the violets or not.

I think the best illustration of this is would be a very simple explanation of lost opportunities. What might have been, could have been, should have been...etc. We all have those questions to some degree. Yes, I agree. It is indeed about possibilities that passed her by, but make no mistake, it was she who did the choosing to let it all pass by.

She was too late for something, something has passed her by
