Namaste is Hindi. It means "hello". I'm not sure what the other means.

It's Hindi. It's the most widely spoken language in the North of India. Namaste means 'Hello' in a very respectable way. If you want a further meaning to it: When said with your hands together with a little nod or bowing (hands together like in prayer), it would translate to, 'I honor/respect the God within you'. In the South they say, Namaskaram (which is the same as Namaste). I think you are refering to Om/Aum Shanti. Shanti means 'Peace'. Om/Aum is a sound from which the Universe is said to have been created. So if someone said, "Om/Aum Shanti", it would mean 'Peace prevail'.

Sanskrit. Namaste is: the God in me bows to the God in you. It's just a greeting of respect.

OH Shanti - I believe you meant Om Shanti. "Shanti" is peace and OM is a supposedly primordial sound that you are supposed to say when you meditate to get you in touch with your deeper being. Or something.

Reminds me of the author who dedicated a copy of his book to "Emma Chisit" at an Australian book signing. It turned out that the customer was just asking the price, not giving her name. Have a star.
