I have the terrible misfortune of being on a cubicle that’s on the entrance. Where I work, there a whole area of cubicles of about 60 cubicles, and only one door. My cubicle happens to be in front of that door. I’m not facing the door, my back is facing the door, the first thing everyone sees when the walk by is my monitor screen in front of me. I HATE IT! I try to ignore it most of the time, but sometimes I just see on the reflection of my monitor how people just walk by paying close attention to whatever is on my screen. Sometimes people come to talk to people here, and wait by door, and they seem to have nothing better to do than to see what I’m doing. We don’t have a strict work environment, everyone gets e-mails with videos, and pictures, but I can’t ever see those like everyone else; I don’t have that luxury because people are constantly coming in and out looking at what’s on my screen. I’m actually a very good worker, sometimes I hate not even being able to take a 5-minute break because people are just keeping coming, and I have to look busy even though I’m doing all my work on schedule. I specially hate when people are eyeballing my personal e-mail.

What can I do?

Turn the screen around.

Interestingly enough, this use to happen to me also. My boss (who is actually a good friend of mine, but extreme micromanager) would actually sneak up behind me into my office and ask me about things on my screen. After the first month of so of this, I put a small concave mirror on the edge of my monitor(you can get at any auto parts store) so that I could "see him coming" and see others stopping in my doorway. This worked well for a while, until he started hanging out and looking through the window by my door so that I could not see any movement. I then turned my entire desktop around and sit in one of the corners, and although it looks and feels a little weird sometime, it is TOTALLY worth it for the extra privacy (and so I can answer questions on Yahoo! Answers :-}

Can you talk to your boss about this and see about moving cubicles? If that is not possible then try to see if you are allowed to put a black screen thing up. If you can put that up then run it just like a door. Try to tell them that it distracts you from your work when you get bothered from people around you.

Get one of those filters they show on TV that block anyone looking at an angle. Should have them at Office Depot or Office Max. Or type in Computer Screen Filters on Google and see what comes up.

Turn your screen / the whole desk around - seriously, that seems to be the only thing to do.

well since your work is not very strict i would say.. buy a huge hat like a simbraro.. no one will be able to see past it. or you can try moving your computer and chair around.
