The tallest free standing structure is the CN Tower in Toronto Ontario Canada 1815feet 5 inches. It has restaurents and many other facilities in side so it is not just a hollow tower
The tallest office/residential building is Taipei 101 in Taiwan it is1667 feet tall

The Petronas towers in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) are no longer the tallest. The Taipei 101 building (Taiwan) is currently the tallest.

The tallest building right now is the Taipei 101 in Taiwan. It measures 101 stories, 508 meters and 1,667 feet.

Now this answer is a bit paradoxical. The tallest building is, supposedly, coming up in (earth-quake prone!) Taipei, Taiwan. I really wonder, as an engineer, what special technique they would use! The name of the building is Taipei 101.
