Oil changes on the duc can be nerve wracking, even for an experienced owner/mechanic.

You will need to remove at least your lower cowling (fun....mistakes are expensive here), and have some not so basic tools available to complete the job.

I strongly recommend purchasing a shop manual if you plan on doing basic services like this for your italian sweetheart.

One great thing I found last year was K&N makes an oil filter with a nut molded into the bottom - this means no oil wrench hassles, just an allen-head socket on a ratchet and you're set. Very nice! Good quality filters too.

As far as which oil, ask your dealer.

What you use (as long as its good quality) isn't nearly as important as how often you change it.

Use a torque wrench to seat the drain plug when you're done. And always use a new crush washer. The K&N filters usually come with a new o-ring for the filter and crush washer for the drain plug.

Fully synthentic, highest grade possible.

If you change it yourself you will probably invalidate the warranty. Go to a dealer, if you can afford to buy a run one you can afford to pay to get the job done right.

You don't deserve to own a Duke if you don't know.
