Well they can take courses and get training in specific lines of work so when they get out they will be able to find a job easier. Or just get a good education and learn how to read and write properly. Rather than gettnig out working for minimum wage if they can even get a job so then they go on welfar which is payed for by your taxes. Then they can't afford to support themselfs or thei families so they go out and rob people or sell drugs again. With all the money the US governent spends on war in a month, and supposed homeland security and border patrols they might as well spend some for this. At least the prisoners will use it effectively.

In my humble opinion, prisoners should be obligated to take courses. I feel this way for several reasons. First and foremost, a high percentage of the people in prisons are there for theft, break and entry etc. and probably because they don't have a decent job making enough money to pay everyday expenses. A High School Education is important and after that some college credits would benefit, a degree or something. ...anything. I feel that education is important for everyone, including prisoners. Why have people waste time making matchstick sculptures when they could be enhancing their lives with education which only helps their families and our economy. I say start them on their GEDs and then offer college courses. By helping improve a persons life with education, you are also helping everyone. Perhaps education means less crime. I would like to think so.

Absolutely. It can help them prepare for a job when they get out or, if they are lifers, it can broaden their outlook and make them better-behaved prisoners.

I think the courses should be taught at the prison as it would be too much of a risk to young students to permit them to attend college in regular classrooms.

prisoners should be able to have the education that the average american gets. most of them have a elementary education and not much else. i agree that the prisoner should pay for his/her own college education but in some circumstances should receive some sort of financial assistance.

It would be one thing, if they would use it when they get out of jail and get a job, but come on, most prisoners usually get out of jail, and before long they usually get themselves back in trouble, and just go back.......on the other hand, I am a citizen of the United States, and saying if they pay it, fine, but I am sick of paying for them to sit and jail, why should be have to pay for schooling, they want to go to.

On-line I think they should be able to, In a personal classroom setting I don't think so. It should also depend on what they are in for. If they are serving back to back life sentences then there is no sense wasting the money to educate someone who will never be able to use there education.
