Take what you like from both and mix them. It will look cool if you do it right.
If I were forced, say at gun point, to choose just one then I'd have to choose the preppy look cause I don't like pants off the but and the chains around the neck look really heavy.
Personally I prefer old jeans or cut off jean shorts, a super soft t-shirt and a pair of flip flop or cool sandles.

If someone asked you if you wanted to be considered an individual, most people would respond "yes!" Yet, while we want to be considered individuals, we seem to always want to hide in a crowd by adopting some form of dress or behavior so we feel that we "belong!"
Those who are truly "secure" realize that "standing out from the crowd" in this competitive world is far more important than "just fitting in."
So, to answer the question directly, NEITHER! The "best" look is the one that defines you as an independent thinker. If you REALLY want to stand out in this society, recognize that appearance is far less important than actions! When you dress as a THINKING individual people will treat you like one. Try the neat and clean look -- it really stands out today!

preppy look because they are clean looking and have an education.
gangster look is usually scary to me.
and it associates with a punk attitude.
not many gangster people have a good education ..

why would be either? just thank God you can make the choice and have thefreedom to make choice some have so hard to even get clothes and food and keep a roof over your head etc. so be big-time thankful for what choice you can make here we are allowed to wear what we want it here its more important what we put on than whats inside where we'll in up when it's our turn to go to the great beyond of death.

Well, if you're in a suburban neighbourhood, if you would like the least amount of critisism, go with the preppy look. I myself, don't worry - or care really, what group or style its from, if i like it, and can afford it, it's going on my back.

depends on what your dressing for if it is aninterview for a job or something like that preppie, if youare just out and about perhaps gansta depending on the people you hang with.
