Not one single opposing player scored on Italy for the entire WC in regular play. I seriously doubt Ziziou or anyone else would have done that with only 10 minutes left.
Edit:
Some good points below me that indeed the Italians could have lost in the final moments of the game (not including the fact Zizou would have been in the shoot out). What I want to know is how much some of you would have bet money on it.
Yes Italia did well in the Germany game, and lets not forget the Australians against South Korea (I think it was against SK). It's just not likely is all.

I agree with sweet panther Juve. No one will ever really know. There is no denying Zidane's impact on the team or how he motivates them to extraordinary levels. His presence alone on the pitch has been so many times enough to drive France on. If he remained on the pitch Trezeguet may not have even taken the shot. Italy dominated the first half of the final, but France the second. Zidane is a brilliant play maker, Italy had shown rock solid defense. The truth is if and buts don't count in the end but any change in the match has the possibility to alter an outcome. The efforts of both sides should not be disregarded, they both reached the final because they showed the ability to play until the final whistle and not take a lead for granted. A teams moral is crucial and there is no doubt I feel that when he was expelled France's concentration would have been interfered with and their moral devastated. But the incident between them did happen and we will never know what the outcome would have been had it not. I'm not taking anything away from the performance of either side.
RO35, quite often the last 10 min of a game are crucial. So many matches were won and lost in that time frame. How many people honestly thought Germany would concede 2 goals to Italy in the final minutes, or Totti would convert a penalty with 5 seconds remaining, or even Drogba scoring so often with minutes to go etc. Players are tired and anything that can happen often does.

You never know. It could very well have went that way. We don't know that Trezeguet would have missed or made his PK if other players were still in the game. We don't know if maybe Henry or Zidane would've taken a PK instead of Trezeguet. Any little change in anything could completely change the whole outcome of it. But, since it has already happened and is over, we will never know for sure. But I think France had just the same chance as Italy to win, until Italy actually won, of course.

Italy players were dead on their feet, they could barely put one foot in front of the other towards the end, and France was only seconds from scoring their second goal. Italy was feeling the pressure and Materazzi felt compelled to releasing his pressure by insulting the one player that was going to set up that precious winning goal. France was going to get the winning goal by a set piece near the Italian penalty area because the tired defense was going to foul a French player. Probably from a free kick from Zidane, yea most likely the parallel version if Materazzi would have kept his damn mouth shut.
Edit: RO35, USA scored on Italy but was denied the goal. At the 65th minute when Italy is again dead on their feet, you can see that DaMarcus Beasley clearly did not intend to hit McBride with the ball as he shot directly on goal. The referee who could not have seen the play called an offside. What bull!!!!!!

They could won the world cup if Zadine had not head butted materazzi but what Zadane did was right and they should not forget that they won world cup98 & they reached to final because only Zadane was with them they are nothing without Zidane.

No .
Here's a great reason :
Then zidane would not have been give the red card . and the game will still go to penalties , and then italy scored all 5 of them , and suppose if they gave a penalty to zizou and he scored , still trezequet must had one and he missed .so the final score still was 5-4 .
Thanks

They very well could have. Team France is one of the best, but Zidane just cannot control his temper and caused team France to lose their focus, not to mention mess up their game strategy. France seems to have their team in sync with each other and timing is key. They start out strong in a game, then pull back a bit midway, then give their all for the end to win.

No.. remember Zidane's cheap penalty that went off the crossbar and barley went in.. for Italy we have amazing players like Daniele De Rossi, Fabio Grosso, Alessandro Del Piero that put in amazing penaltys that are unstopable!

you can really never know, because if the game had gone to PK's maybe zidane would have taken the PK instead of Trezeguet...but it doesn't matter, italia got in all their PK's too so Italy would have still won. They're the better team.
