do you mean Greek independence? if so, it probabably Lord Byron (George Gordon). "Byron died fighting for Greek independence"

I assume also that you mean "Greek" independence.

In which case it was Byron; although, to be fair, "fighting" is a rather generous term for it. What he really did was swan around Greece dressed in "local" clothes, enjoying the lionising that he was accorded. He then went and contracted malaria.
