Did you know that Dracula was born in a part of the mountain glen called Glenulin, outside Garvagh, in Co. Derry in Northern Ireland?

Whitby, North Yorkshire. I've been there many times as my brother lives closeby. It's a wonderful little fishing town built either side of the River Esk. It has a wonderful sandy beach, with caves in the rockface, and there are boat rides from the river, into the sea and back, including a couple of viking boats.
Whitby Abbey is in ruins, but it watches over Whitby from high up on the south cliff and there are 199 steps leading up to the abbey from the market street below. St. Mary's Church is just behind the Abbey, and Bram Stoker's grave is in its cemetery. A really awesome place, even though it is in ruins, where they hold a Dracula weekend at least once a year, and I think maybe twice. Bram Stoker was so taken with the dramatic lines of Whitby, the old town and the majestic Abbey, that he was inspired to write a Dracula story based on the surroundings.
Captain Cook is also connected with Whitby, and on the north cliff, there is a whalebone arch in commemoration to him.
If you haven't been there, you should give it a try. Great, fresh, locally caught fish'n'chips there, some quaint shops and market square, not to mention the exhillaration of climbing the steps to the Abbey! They even have guided ghost walks at night, during a part of the year. Fantastic place! :-)

Dracula buys Carthax Abbey at Whitby. This Abbey does not really exist, there is an Abbey at Whitby (it is pretty ruinous) but it is not called Carthax. Whitby is a great place for a day out and Whitby Abbey is well worth seeing.
I do not think the actual town of Whitby itself was ever used in any film version of Dracula.
