i agree that a playoff system is needed because it forces a stronger method of determining a champion.
however, what will the playoff system be determined on? RANKINGS! which are based on the AP, USA Today and Harris polls. Isn't that what we have now?
Are people going to still cry during the season when their teams aren't ranked a certain number and then get seeded in an unfavorable way? Just a thought...

I do.
This is most of the answer I gave to this question asked by Miz: Why is the media so high on USC football?
This is the part of that answer I believe is relevant to your question.
‘I don't get the college ranking system at all.
Why don't they just take all those big money colleges and lump them all together and create an American College Football League (ACFL), with conferences and divisions like the NFL. Maybe they could have an American College Conference and a National College Conference with north, south, east and west divisions.
Then also a playoffs like the NFL; then an ACFL Super Bowl.
College football is basically like what the minor league is to baseball except the fact that college football is big business; so why not make college football more consistent with the pros in every aspect...including some kind of pay for the college athlete.
Why should the school reap all the profit and the athletes have to pray that they get their blessings after they graduate? ‘

The BCS is a joke. Just look at how they ranked West Virginia. pior to last weekend Wets Virginia was ranked seventh and had only played one ranked team in Louisville which they lost. Strength of schedule my a**. A playoff system is definitely needed. Screw the bowls.

if they are gonna have a championship there should be some type of tournement.... the BCS is a series of bowl games to pick a champion, that makes no sense! they could have the teams that make it into the BCS in a playoff format or have a baskeball march madness type tournement, however that could lead to injuries causeing a main outcome to games, so i vote for the top 10 BCS teams making it into a playoff with 1.5 weeks between each game, then the games could be spread throughout the week.....

they definately have time for a 8-10 team playoff....there is over a month layoff from osu/mich to osu in championship game....insted a team playing NW missouri state polytec of fine arts as a tune up game, play the extra game in dec as part of a playoff system...in other words, play only in your conference and maybe 1 decent game out of conference, then 3playoff games max.

They definitely should. It would be a more accurate way to see who's who rather than having to go by these hokey polls!
