Don't you think it's a little late for that? A lot of people live in this country that are not Indians, furthermore, most of us were born and raised here and had nothing to do with the tragedies that occurred several hundred years ago. What would the Indians do with all the land if they got it back? I'm not saying that you don't have a valid point in that what occurred was wrong, but everyone during those times has died. If there was a plausible solution to the fact that there would be millions without homes then I would agree with you. I guess I'm saying that the solution you offer is not practical.

And give Australia back to the aboriginals...
and give South Africa back to the black tribes...
and give Gibralter back to the Spanish...
and give Israel back to the Palestineans...

oh hang on a minute, it seems that there is a bit of a historical precendent for conquest.

Once a terrority is well and truely conquored the new masters make it their own. If they can breed fast enough they take the position of the natural inheritors of the territory. The US is disporportionalty populated by Americans who are not native "indians". They will never give it back. Gibralter is populated by a majority of pro-British citizens who will not give it back by democratic means (ie. by referendum). Australia is the same as the USA.

South Africa and Israel are interesting. These demographics are not overwhelmingly unbalanced. In South Africa the black government has embraced the white mans right to co-existence.

In Israel there is much discussion about the "Demographic Threat", which is a veiled way of voicing a fear that if/when there are greater numbers of Arab-Israelis than non-Arab-Israelis then the non-Arab-Israelis might be driven away. This seems unlikley but many still fear it.

By that thinking, any country that has ever moved into someone else's territory should "give it back"!? Get real dude. There are some countries that have been taken over by multiple countries multiple times and probably couldn't trace there original borders in the first place! Yes, it was wrong for the white people to do what they did, but HELLO we are human beings! This is how we do things! Take a world history class bud!

First off, they're called Native Americans. Indians are from India, the name derived from the fact Columbus thought he was in India. As for white Americans giving them back the land, it's a little more complicated than that.

The problem with your assertion is that the Indians were not native to these lands either, they also immigrated. The genocide performed against Indians in this country is appalling by almost any account, but your proposal is just ludicrous and designed merely to incite rhetoric. While it has been a long time coming many Indian tribes are now seeing some recompense for the past by being allowed to open and operate casinos which generate a huge take and revenue sharing for the members. The past cannot be erased and it cannot be undone. The only course now is too move forward and hope such slights are never repeated in the future.

The Americans who took the land from the Native Americans are all dead, should their descendents have to pay for their crimes? Give up their homes for a crime they did not committ?

Also, if you want to debate American/Native Americans, then virtually every country in the world would have to give back land to other countries, populations would have to leave their homes. Every country, in the past, has conquered land, fought wars and so on, to try and right these wrongs now by giving the land back would be impossible.

Americans now should try and make amends for what they did in the past, but to give them the entire country is a little extreme.

They are actually 'Native Americans'; the only reason they were ever called Indians is because the first "whites" to land in America thought they were in India! The "Red" followed to enable the "whites" to distinguish between the two races.

(Bet the 'Native Americans' wish they HAD landed in India!)

Hey man, I was born here even though my family came from Great Britain 170 years ago. I'm not going anywhere, so just deal with it.

A largely overlooked piece of this issue is that Native American Indians and those coming from Europe had completely different ideas about the use of land. Indians thought it should all be for public use whereas individuals owning specific pieces of property was an idea imported by the Europeans.

A good question, it's a shame that the totally liberal and creed and culture respecting Americans persecuted the rightful natives for so long. The problem is, which country in its right mind is going to welcome so many prats? I think Europe will do everything in its power to keep the liars out. They aren't welcome anywhere on this planet. Maybe they could go to the moon - but wait fitting 350 million of them into a film studio would be quite a squeeze.

When did the world become so screwed up that we feel we have the right to own one land mass over another? We are all dwellers of the planet Earth - made up of many continents. We were given this planet, and what did we do with it? We segregated it...we allowed ownership. And from there...the wars began. We deserve all the devastation we get...as we are responsible for destroying the planet entrusted to us.
