The main occupation of the people is farming (agriculture). Also the areas in Howrah & Hooghly district have small & medium industries & employ many people. In areas like Durgapur, Raniganj, Asansol, Kulti (in Burdwan district) has many a coal mines. Durgapur also have iron & steel plant. Also places in Nabadeep, Krishnanagar, Samudragarh, Kalna etc. have handloom & pottery as alternate occupation. Fishing on the rivers are also a de-centralised occupation in the area.

Oops I am late, The main reason is - The fertile bay of River Ganga. That helped most of the medieval aryans to colonize & to increase population.

Agriculture is main occupation.they are very fast developing in all the manners,like more civilized,advanced culture,and well educated.everything is improving fast.

They are warm, friendly, very excited to meet strangers...but be very cautious if you visit on Wednesdays.... they typically play poker and don't like to be disturbed.
