Yes, it's obscene the amount that they earn. Ultimately it's the fan in the street who pays their wages, and some of those are the least able to afford it.

Well some certainly get paid huge amounts, but it could be argued that the sport they play earns millions of pounds, if Manchester United are earning hundreds of millions, surely the players are entitled to a fare share of that money. Also most professional athlethes have short careers and there is a high risk of injury and a strain on their personal lives from celebrity and travel.

In real terms however, when looking at what they actually do it would seem that getting paid millions to play a game does seem too much.

thirty years ago; the av rage wage was £1500; a year.the wage for top sportsman then was £15000;a year.10 times more than the av rage working man.now top sports people earn ;250 times 'more; than the av rage person in the street. they do not deserve it.

o hell yeah!! but the clubs can afford to pay the players that much. its like if your a successful lawyer you'll get paid more. most clubs are just business's.

oh yeah, far too much. some sports people make more in a week than most of us will make in 10 years

Not when you compare the level of entertainment they provide with the efforts of boy bands.
