That depends on what kind of degree you hold, and your experience. You could always work at a zoo or animal preserve (anything that pays more than minimum wage would probably require a college degree) Or you could try being a dog trainer, which would probably not only require experience training dogs, but certification in that field. I hear that walking dogs for people who don't have the time to can be profitable. If you want to open your own business and you live in a large area..try doggie daycare (you would have to make sure you have licenses and certification there, too). If you just want to work with animals for the sake of being a nice person, you could always volunteer at your local animal shelter...they always need a helping hand.

Without knowing if there is a specific area you want to specialize in, it it hard to narrow down the thousands of job opportunities there are. But here are a few that I know have very good pay. I am a vet tech student myself, and decided that I don't want to go into that field now, so I am still trying to decide what is best for me. It has been three years now and I still don't know.

Cruelty investigators, Animal behaviorists, Massage Therapist (I am soon to take a course on this and be nationally certified for equine). How about being a trainer for either wild (exotics) or domesticated animals? Scientists are paid very well, how about one of these Parasitologists, Zoologists, Immunologists, Systematists, Entomologists, Microbiologists, and Research Molecular Biologists.

There are so many jobs out there, that I found this site that list many things.

I'm not sure if any job with animals pays very good, but theree are plenty of jobs at places like the zoo. From cleaning up after them to help feeding them, to general care. There is pet grooming, (of you want to call if a job), animal breeding. Depending on what kind of animal you are thinking about, there are tons of jobs with horses, from training, to boarding, shoeing, other general care outside of being the medical vet. There are several jobs associated with the zoo, 4-H leaders, animal shelters, animal control, animal rescue that deals with everything from cats and dogs to whales!! places like Sea world, ther are plenty, you just have to look. But it shouldn't be about the pay if your true calling is animals, it should be for the love it it!!

What job you get depends on where you are. I'm a Vet Tech student and I know that Wyoming is hurting for techs and vets so i'm moving to where the jobs are. Some people (PETA, and most people on here) think horseback riding/breaking is abuse, that depends on your views.

What is your experience? Are you more into secretaral work, hands on, runing tests (heart worm).

Next ask your self if your ready to see the vet (if your a tech) do work. Or if you can stand some of the stuff needed to be done to tain a horse. Working with animals isn't always easy. They can't understand us and therefore it can look like your hurting them when your not. You have to think what your views are, not ours.

Don't believe ANYONE that tells you being a Vet Tech pays well! You cannot feed a cat on the pay. You can make a living wage if you work at a Research facility...but that is not what you are looking for. Vets do not pay much.

There really are not job working with animals that pay well. Even vets do not make as much as they should.

Consider grooming. School is relatively short. If you get into a good shop you can make a good living. To see if you are suited, get a job as a dog bather. This is the most back breaking part of the job. If you like this, grooming will be a sheer joy, as it is with me. The best part of the job is all the hugs you can get from your furry clients.

Have you tried applying to a horse farm, or riding stable, or what about a groomer or working at a pet store. I understand completely about loving animals and not being able to see them suffer. Good luck.

try vetrinary technician or being a secretary at a vets office, you could also try working at a zoo as maybe one of the people who feed and take care of the animals, or try dog training and grooming.
