Just don't make any external structural changes and you should be fine. This means no extensions, no going into the loft etc. However, by upgrading the decor - especially the kitchen and bathroom - and ensuring that the space inside is used in the most efficient way, you'll show the house at it's best and definitely add value to the property. You can move doors and internal walls if necessary - although if you think the walls are structural, you'll need to get in an engineer before you do anything.

replacement windows, kitchen, bathroom, general decor will make your house sell quicker, not necessarily for more money.
Adding a conservatory doesn't generally need planning permission, although its always worth a quick letter to the planning dept to check about outline permission. They add value because they can be positioned as an extra reception room.
Log cabin with power, described as a "self-contained home office" might help.
Off road hardstanding for cars adds value.
Converting a loft requires permission so the answer somewhere above is wrong.
If you spend £10K on a kitchen, it MAY add £5K...but you've actually lost money, not added value.
Most answers talk about things that will make your house more presentable to sell, not add value.

Make sure all the exterior paintwork is perfect including the front door. Make sure your kitchen is up to date and stylishly neutral. Re-do a bathroom with a roll top bath and plenty of cupboards. Put down wooden parquet flooring. Install a period fireplace with gas effect fire if not done already. These are the things which sell houses.
You need planning permission for a porch or conservatory.

You will lose money whatever you do. Some things lose more value than others, especially new kitchens and bathrooms. Remember that when most people buy a property, the first thing they do is instal a new kitchen and bathroom, so your expenditure goes down the pan.

This is really something to find that many all together. For someone like me who is just really starting to get involved with woodworking this was like letting me loose in a candy store and telling me I could have anything I wanted. That was my dream when I was a kid.

You can put up a deck, do some landscaping, even planting trees can add to the value of your home, a fire place can add to it also. A pleasant looking fence, a Koi pond and lots more.

you don't need planning for a porch or taking internall walls down just someone with refurb knowledge i.e propping ceilings.if you had a unused garage you can convert that into an extra room.loft conversions are a bit sticky because of skylights neighbours complain about being overlooked.normally get away with fitting them in front part of roof
