The poem is about the simple manifestation of nature at different times. The reference to Kafka's short story though is beyond, "Not quite Franz Kafka." The son in Kafka's story is dealing with homosexuality and how it makes him feel despised and different. Like the giant cockroach he becomes. Your inclusion of that story tainted my read of your poem. I'd leave out or change your title. But like I said, the poem is great in its simplicity.
