Difficult one... Once got a poem by email once that kind of sums it up... that really: us whites are the 'coloured'....

This was written by a black guy in Texas and is so funny.

> >> when I go in sun,! I black,
> >> when I cold, I black,
> >> when I scared, I black,
> >> when I sick, I black,
> >> and when I die, I still black.

Aw. Are you SURE you don't know the answer to this one?

It is polite to call people by their preferred name. This applies to groups just as with individuals.

Nowadays 'black' people prefer being called 'black' so forget the 'coloured' thing. It's considered old fashioned, if not racist.

It would be better to call a black person black than coloured. Coloured can mean any race and a black person would respect you better for using the correct term.

At this point in time yes. It used to be acceptable then the rules changed and coloured was considered racist.

Judging by your spelling of "coloured", I would assume you are not in the United States (colored). So I can't answer completely honestly. In the US, I wouldn't consider it a racist term, but definitely deragatory and insulting. Other parts of the world, I am unsure what is acceptable or not.

Are coloured people not a different race to Black People? I'm sure in South Africa when they categorised race, Coloured and Black were viewed on as different.

no its not, anyone who says yes is mental. for example; how the hell is someone who has never met or seen a black person before and never had a discussion with one of these PC brigade mugs, supposed to know how to describe a black person? its not racist, its just someone trying to describe a person

I wouldn't call a black person coloured, but that is me.

Well I wouldn't like to be called that because it is out dated!
I'm not red, green or blue but Black.
The only problem is I feel that way! but another black person may not mind or doesn't like to be called black?
