I recently replaced the fan on my CPU. Since I have done this, when switching on my PC it just opens the BIOS. After I exit the BIOS it restarts itself but there is no power on self test beep and nothing appears on the monitor. I have to switch off completely and restart, then the whole thing happens again.
I am not sure whether it might have something to do with the memory, as each time it does a memory test on start up the number of kilobytes is different. For example, it should be about 647000 but the last time I booted it it said 24000. I know a fair bit about PCs but this one has stumped me and any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Also there is a message in the BIOS on CPU internal Frequency... It says 'During the last boot up, your system hung for an improper CPU internal frequency setting. Your system is now working in safe mode.'

My CPU internal frequency is set to 1300MHz.

It might be worth flashing the BIOS, I fixed an older computer for a friend and the old BIOS couldn't cope with the faster fan speed. Once, I had flashed the BIOS up to the latest version, it started working fine. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully, if you try this.

It's also worth reseating your RAM chips first, just in case you accidentally nudged them.

From the extra information you have provided it sounds like the BIOS.

If your not sure how to flash the BIOS.

First write down the model number of the BIOS, then type it into yahoo or google. You should find some sites with flash updates for your computer. It should be free to download there are some sites that will try and charge you for the download, but keep looking for the update it should be free. Oh and you might need a blank floppy disk, the program you download usually makes a bootable floppy disk that upgrades your bios.

Good Luck

I am not sure if we can work this out with one answer posts. I will give it a serious go.
1) Did you apply a fresh coat of thermal compound between the processor and the heatsink?
2) Check your EIDE cables (usually gray and flat). It may have become loose at the motherboard or hard drive.
3) Make sure your fans are ALL plugged in. Some motherboards have a safety that will not allow them to run if fans are not running or plugged in.
4) Reseat all of the cards and the memory modules.

Good day. Good notice about the memory. Possibly while u were changing the fan by mistake u may have bumbed into the memory and threw it off its socket. Open up the PC and make sure the memory sticks in place. If u carried the PC somewhere and u got the problem when get it back, carry it back and dont pay for the fix cause is not your fault. Some ppl which is in d miniority may actually switch memory sticks with bogus ones or take one cause they assume u are computer illiterate. Some stores may actually do somethin else to yur comp causing u to come back so they can get money. Watch out for this. Laterz.

All you receives once you attempt to initiate the computing gadget without RAM is a beep code signifying no RAM put in. No RAM - no boot. a similar is real at the same time as attempting besides and not using a not difficulty-free force. It relies upon on the operating gadget you try to load to even if a computing gadget will boot on minimum RAM criteria. as an party: the further present day the operating gadget - the further RAM required. you may boot homestead windows ninety 8 on 32 MB of RAM - will run gradual - in spite of the indisputable fact that this is going to boot.

Have you checked all your connections inside the pc. Maybe something has come loose. An IDE cable or something. I've never had this problem but I would just try re-tracing your steps up until the point you added the fan...

First off it sounds like you may have missed reconnecting something when you replaced your fan. Open it up and check the connections. Then check and make sure nothing came lose - namely your memory sticks. - give it a shot then

You may haven't loosened a component - I would remove the expansion cards and memory module(s), make sure they are all clean and replace. Also make sure you are grounded while you do this.
