I think new years eve is the most overated night of the year!

Its seems that everyone is expected to celebrate, no home parties are any good as everyone is so spread about and clubs, pubs and cabs all charge the earth !!

You've never had a Hogmanay then. Head up the road and you will have a blast (Scotland).

I have had one great New Year's Eve (the year I was 21, actually) but not another since. We threw an awesome home party, required everyone to stay in since there was much drinking going on. And in the middle of the night it started to snow (it was kind of surprising, as I'm in East Texas and we don't get much snow here) so on New Year's Day I was able to enjoy getting up with friends and building a snowman.

But overall, yeah, it's usually a disappointment. I know every New Year's Eve and every party we've either hosted or been to since that time have been.

My best New Years eve was last year, in a house party: about 30 friends, in a country house, a lot of drinks, snacks, some green and very good music. I wish i could repeat this year again. Going to pub is horrible, so much people, so many drunk people, a boring night.

New Year is a great time - organise a party early enough and you get everyone who you invite come - organise late and everyone is already doing something.

Clubs are far too expensive as are cabs - New Year is a time to spend with family and close friends so throw a dinner party - you will then see how many acceptances you get.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Your right, the pubs are chocker block full, taxis cost a fortune, house parties usually end with someone upset or rowing, last year we went to Edinburgh for a change and had the most amazing time, it was so worth going, because of work commitments for my hubby we can't go this year, guess it will be the two of us at home and a drink with the neighbours at midnight.

I always seem to have a great time on New Year's eve regardless of whether I spend it at a home party or if I go out with friends - it's all in what you make it!

When I was younger New Years Eve was a brilliant night going from house to house - one party after another until the early hours. These days you can't trust anyone not to come into your house and not steal your stuff or puke on your carpet.

I like to call N.Y.E amateur night- I don't need ONE night of the year to have a great night out, I can do it ANY night of the year!!

Having said that, my dad's side of the family is Scottish and it is a BIG tradition up there- they even have an extra days public holiday to recover. Now THAT would be a good party!

New Years Eve is what you make it. As long as you have your friends and family with you or on the end of the phone.
