I worked for a bank in South Africa and now in the UK. I know that you can use your debit card anywhere. There isn't a chip and pin is SA, but they will swipe it in the machines. You will be charged a service fee by your bank each time you use it, depending on the bank you are with. I know Nationwide does not charge for withdrawals anywhere in the world.

Remember, anywhere you see the Maestro sign, which is just about everywhere.
Keep your card safe, in restaurants, don't give it to the waiters and let them go off with it. If you have to, follow them. Will save you millions. Criminals in South Africans are just as up to speed as the rest of the world. Be cautious. Wish I were you, its summer over there now, so have lots of fun in the beautiful beaches.

Enjoy SA!!!

If the card is either "Cirrus" or "Maestro" you can use the card at virtually all ATMs in the country (and there are plenty of them as the banking sector in SA is fairly sophisticated). In the larger cities and especially in supermarkets, restaurants and shopping centres these debit cards are generally accepted. I use my debit card everywhere and have found that the only time I have needed a credit card is for car hire. In conclusion, remember to set up your daily and monthly cash withdrawal limit before you leave the UK.

Matsercard is extra broadly prevalent, some smaller shops do no longer settle for American exhibit playing cards. The forex of the Travelars cheques does no longer be counted as foreight replace is quite straight away forward. Why no longer get the travellars in South African Rands?

Visa and Mastercard are able to be used in SA. Your switch card will do the trick.

Enjoy your stay, its a good place to go for a holiday.

You won't be able to use Solo, but as long as your Switch card has the Maestro symbol you should be OK.

I use my Natwest switch/solo card all the time in SA, so yeah, you should be able to as well.

If they have Maestro then possibly yes. Doubt you can use Solo. Why not phone your bank?
