Gene therapy typically aims to supplement a defective mutant allele with a functional one. Although the technology is still in its infancy, it has been used with some success. It broadly means curing a person of a disease by working on gene level. Defects in the genes of the person, which cause the disease in question, are identified, and then the gene therapists try to remove the abnormalities. Obviously, it is very very costly, and caters only to genetic defects. Your normal headache will not be treated by gene therapy:-)
