JIMBO you are the biggest retard so far. A general term for our young is the word "baby". We never say "baby fox" it's "fox cub" or "baby cat" it's "kitten".

We borrowed so many words from other languages. In one language there aren't usually so many different words for young of different animals. Same reason we say deer and venison, pigs and swine, etc...

it is an idiosyncrasy (sorry spelling) of language, or why would baby squirrels have the same name as baby cats, and why are there several names for young from the same species.

Duh!! Because if a badger or a frog, say, named its baby Gretchen or Oswald, things would get totally confused, so they name them things like Barnaby (for a badger) and Ralph (for a frog). Actually apes don't give their babies human names either. Whoever told you that was just "funning" you.

its so you can say to your kid at the zoo" hey theres a cub, or chick " or something...its easier than adding" baby" before their name
