You need to find out what he likes best first. does he like sports, simulation games (I E the sims). adventure games like Zelda, which is really popular 4 gamecube. The Mario games are also popular with the gamecube, Mario games are fun but more for kids 16 and under

Metroid Prime series is excellent, definitely one to go for. Wario Ware is a good party game, as is Donkey Konga. zelda is a sound bet the theres also soul calibur 2, timesplitters 2 and f zero gx. mario, contrary to popular belief, is NOT a kids' game and would go down well with you and your boyfriend.

Eternal Darkness:Sanity's requim. Proably the best exclusive game to gamecube in my opinion. Giest was decent although I still think Eternal Darkness was better except for the no multi-player to it.
