The problem with phillishave is the actual blade is further away from your skin because the round grill that covers the blade is thicker than the mirofoils most other manufacturers use.
Look at a Braun shaver and you'll see a micro thin foil between your skin and the cutting block, the thinner it is the closer the cut.
It really is a matter of preference, the philishaves are good battery shavers because they use less power so the last for ages but for mains/rechargeable i would go Braun.
I used to sell the things and have tried just about every make going, most are very similar despite what they claim but at least with Braun you can easily get new foils and cutters. You can get them off Ebay really cheap by the way.
You could possible look at Remmington as another option.
The main thing to remember with foil razors is NOT to press on hard, it makes no diffrence to the cut, you should stroke it and not press because it just makes the foil touch the cutting block and they just wear each other out.
They all do a range, i'd go rechargeable and make sure you can still use it on the lead (mains/rechargable) so you can still use it if the charge runs out.
Again look on Ebay, lots of last years models going cheap and even Amazon do them, Argos is worth a look as they are always keen on pricing.

I have tried them all over the years and I swear that BRAUN is the most reliable, gives the smoothest shave without cuts, nicks and irritations, replaces foils and screens easily and is built rugged and durable. nothing like Made in Germany for quality and state -of - the -act technology. I use Braun single head type is the best - avoid the double head or rotary.
When U shave - don't PRESS down on skin, rather pull the skin with your fingers and glide gently over the area. Use corn starch to increase smooth gliding action in the summer sweaty heat.
BRAUN RULES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recommend Gillette. It's the best electric razor so far. I have been using this for the past 20 years and I don't have any problems. Why don't you try and see the difference?

I have a Remington Titanium which is excellent. They have just bought out a new range.
Last week I bought the Remington MB42C beard trimmer and is the best thing since sliced bread!! Has various settings - great for keeping that stubble look if you hate the baby face look.
