There are people who have extremely high intelligence or IQ This is measured by a test. If you test above a certain level, (not sure maybe 160) you are considered a genius. A genius IQ is rare, a very low percentage of the population.
It is something you are born with and can not change.
However, you can become an expert on a subject by studying it. You can become better at anything by practice. Just do something that you are naturally good at, and keep up with it to become an expert in that area.
And then there is the subject of giftedness, which is not neccessarily connected with IQ. People can have a very obvious talent in some area without being a genius. It is also a natural ability, but it also has to be fine-tuned or honed. Artists and musicians are usually gifted in the area they excel in, but need a lot of practice and hard work. The difference is, an "average" person who wants to be an artist or musician would not usually be able to do it at a professional level. You can create art or play music for your own enjoyment (if you are not gifted) but can not realistically aspire to be a professional in that field.
Good luck with your endeavors!

Genius is an overused word to describe someone of very high intelligence. However, true genius occurs once in a generation. I believe Stephen Hawking is the genius of this generation.

It was einstein who said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. This suggests that you can train to be a genius, but my own opinion is that you must have good quality cognitive architecture in place to begin with.

Being a genius is not all that it is cracked-up to be. It won't make you richer, happier, nor will it bequeath you respect. In some instances, it may have negative effects on your mental well-being. You will also be treated as "different".

Many people who are considered geniuses lack social skills, have/had a difficult time relating to their peers (many are ostracized and thought of as eccentric; many are hazed while in school), and live hermetic lives.

In high school, I only had four close friends. We were all considered "geniuses". We had all taken the WAIS-III and all scored over 140 (I personally scored 155). We as a group were not accepted into any mainstream "clique" (i.e. jocks, bad-*** dudes, etc). We were relegated to our own "clique", the brains/nerds/geeks/etc. group.

We were ridiculed, looked down upon, and basically banned from having any form of social contact with members of these other "cliques". We had also tried, but to no avail. We basically just kept to ourselves, engaging in activities that we loved to do with each other or alone (i.e. computer programming, solving difficult math problems, reading, and philosophizing about things).

Additionally, there is nothing you can do to become or incline yourself towards being a "genius". You either are or you're not. There may be a genetic predisposition to becoming one (my brother scored 159 on the WAIS-III when he was in high school and had a similar high school experience as me). It also can be attributed to the environment in which you were nutured, in conjunction with the genetic predisposition (i.e. how your parents/family members interacted with you, nutrition, etc.).

All I can suggest is that you try to be the best person that you can in all domains in your life. These domains can be intellectual/academic and also how you treat your fellow humanbeings.

Yes, geniuses exist, at least according to the people that administer IQ tests.

My child is not a genius, but her IQ results rank in extraordinary. She amazing processing skills, and can see solutions not readily visible to "normal" people.

Can you train yourself to be one?

Not really. Geniuses have ways with words, numbers, thought or ideas that are uncanny to "normal" people, and is generally an inherited skill, not a learned one.

Perhaps if your parents hounded you day and night from infantry, you could "learn", but I doubt it.
