Police officers are called all kinds of bad names and the names vary between countries. Where I live nobody would call the police pigs, but they get called other bad names (bitches, losers, bastards etc.). I guess people just use whatever word seems offensive and negative to call someone and in English speaking countries one of those words is pig.

I always thought that was the name they were called by people who have a reason to be abusive, on the whole I think they do a good job just imagine daily life without the protection of the police (at times it leaves a lot to be desired) but generally its an undesirable profession
