I'm looking for something collaborative. I've heard good things about 30 Boxes. How does it compare with Google Calendar?

I went with Google Calendar.
Mainly because so many of the people we want to see and administer the calendar were already using GoogleMail/Gmail.

The interface is very easy to use. There are plenty of public calendars that are genuinely useful and can be included. Being part of Google it's also the place that most people look first when searching for events. That was important to us.

On the other hand '30 boxes' is very configurable and looks good.
They both do the job.

I would say go for Google Calendar if you want your calendar to be seen by the general public. If it is to be used by a closed group then '30 boxes' can give you a more attractive end result.

I adore Google Calendar because it works just like a desktop calendar program, and is integrated with Gmail.
