Does a Nintendo DS have to recharge?

If so: does it come with a recharger or do I have to buy one?

(Im sorry if this sounds stupid, but I don't want to get it for my cousin and her not be able to play it.)

Yes, it does need to be shut off to recharge on it's own or plugged in. It does come with a charger. The biggest problem I have with it is that there aren't enough games out for it that my boys find interesting enough to play (they completed all the ones they liked in days).
