A danger to humans? NO
Never kill a preying mantis! Eat all your bugs in and around your house!

BTW at that time of the year the farmers pay to have them imported into our area. The kids play with them, they have never been bite by one. Did not know they would bite lol!

No - not dangerous at all!!

Be prepared for the occasional scratch, when the mantis feels that it might fall from your hand! Try not to look like food - a wriggling finger might confuse a mantis, and some people suggest that if you put your face too close the mantis might think your eye is a bug and attack.

As long as you know that a mantis will only attack something that appears to be food, and you don't pick them up by grabbing their thorax from behind you should be okay. They don't like being grabbed by the thorax! (the thorax is the narrow bit between the head and the bulkier abdomen.)

If you're nervous, wear non-knitted gloves to pick it up. Also, it's nice to let them walk onto your hand - you can encourage this by putting one hand in front for it to walk onto, and then cupping the other hand behind the mantis so that it can only move forwards.

No, they are harmless to humans. The worst they could do is scratch you a bit with their claws or maybe bite if they thought you were food, but I have never had that happen to me. They are unlikely to bite people because they can see we are way to big to be a food source.

No but I wouldn't want to get attacked by one. On the other hand...they are major predators, a real bad a** in a bugs world. have fun :)
