Wont have them in the house. If they're not lifting your leg then theyre supping your tea!

On the flipside tho' I know a lot of tradesfolk and somtimes the customers can be a little bit demanding when they dont have full understanding of the work involved. Still dont let them bully you, tell them what you want and stick to it.

I once had an old lady go crackers at me for chasing up her wall to fit some additional wiring for wall lights. She figured you just stuck them to the wall and hey presto...

Yes, but then we've been very lucky and very choosy. I always ensure all tradespeople are registered with the respective trade bodies (Corgi for gas etc.) and also try to get other people's opinions on them before I employ them. Also, I tend to use local contractors as far as possible because they know the area and know what they're working with. I often go for the smaller firms because they are often family run and have a reputation built on word of mouth, not just on hi advertising budgets. They will do everything they can to uphold that reputation so you get a good job done.

Yes! I use friends of mine or contacts my husband has made through a business networking group. The only way to get tradesmen who will do the job for you well at a reasonable price is to use the old "mate of a mate" policy.

yep.

You need to take time to find them, go with referrals from friends.

The last place to secure a tradesman is through the yellow pages or an advert.

The good ones are too busy to advertise.

Me: I buy/sell/develop all the time so deal with lots of tradesman. You just need ot be able to manage them. show respect to the right people and you get a great job.

Sounds like its too late for your job, just choose the right people next time.
