I got my ears pierced at 16, 5 years ago, and ever since they have never been fully healed. They are always sensitive, have a little bit of puss, and the backs are a little crusty. I wear earrings that say sensitive and nickel free, so I dont think Im just allergic. Also, if I wear anything that dangles, it will hurt by the end of the day. What can I do to make them heal? And dont tell me I just need to stop wearing earrings, thats not an answer. Thanks! :)

Even with sensitive and nickle free, there is a chance that something might be in those metals that your ears don't like. Often 14k gold or better and titanium are really good choices. You will pay more, but you should see an improvement.

To help with the pussing, use sea salt soaks on your ears. The sea salt will help flush your ears and dry up the puss without irritating your skin or piercing (which is what alcohol and peroxide can do). Simply get some non iodized sea salt and mix enough of it in with warm water so the solution tastes similar to tears and soak your ears 2-3 times daily for about 10-15 minutes. If the puss is bright yellow or greenish, then it is a sign of an infection and you may want to look into antibiotics.

It sounds like it could be one of two things. You are either allergic to these metals when it comes to your ears, or they pierced them wrong. That happened to my daughter. My mother and I had her ears pierced at the age of 2 months. If she doesn't have earrings in for about a month, they start closing up. She is three now, and I even tried having her wear this one pair for a year. It didn't matter. When I took them out, they still closed up. I then put earrings back in and they became infected. Apparently they healed, because my mom put earrings on her and nothing happened.

You could try rubbing alcohol, or you could just take a small break from earrings for a week. That seems to have worked for my daughter. She's three now, btw. I also had a friend who was allergic to earrings in just her ears. Whatever was in them, it didn't matter if it was diamonds, gold, whatever. She was allergic and wasn't able to wear them.

Are you wearing them to tight? Someone told me to put clear nailpolish on and let it dry. Might help.

What I found at a local store long ago was these new nylon plastic pierced earings. Never had a problem. Not sure who made them.

Have you tried pure silver? I always did good with the training set, never had problem with it. Used them the most! So, maybe you go back to a Claires and ask what they have for hypo-allergic pierced ears.

Scroll down the page and read the nickel free:

Hello there!!!

Well sometimes the problem is just humidity. Alcohol can help, but the only thing is going to do is try to seal them and is going to be worst. Every time you shower dry completely your ears, don't let hair products get near the area, and use triple-antibiotic and some products that are astringent. Here in Puerto Rico there is a great product called "Agua Maravilla" * (Marvelous Water) and triple antibiotic and I used them to heal my second earring piercing and they healed very fast.

Check with a local piercing shop. Titanium might be the way to go. Not only is it good for most people who are sensitive to everything else, but it's lighter than any other material of comparable size. A small 18 gauge ring would be lightweight and easy access for any followup cleaning the piercer might recommend.

buy some surgical spirit at any pharmacy, soak a cotton swab in it morning and night and rub it on your ear lobe (with no earring in it). then get the earrings you are going to wear, and rub some surgical spirit on them. then put a teeny bit of savlon (also in pharmacies) on your lobes and earrings (only dab it on or you'll rub off the surgical spirit)then put the earrings in your ears. do this morning and night, or whenever you can. they will soon heal perfectly.

once you think they're 100% better, use only the surgical spirit (not savlon)for another week, after that stop using it and go back to regular ear cleaner. use this on your earrings every time you take them in or out or get a new pair. i had the same problem as you and this cleared it up perfectly. hope this helps you.

If it's been going on for that long, you might want to talk to a doctor just to be sure it's not something more serious than what kind of jewelry you're wearing. If it's an infection, you may need some sort of antibiotic to help clear it up, or it may never go away.

Also, try getting some jewelry made from surgical stainless steel, see how that works for you. :)

you could use the antibhiotics that you would normally get when you get your ears pierced.

i would say you should see a doctor though. since this hap been happening for 5 years, its probably something wrong. i would suggest a doctor's opinion.

:]
