I fully understand. My Partner adn I are also in a long term relationship and we finally found the *only* gay bar in Oshkosh. People were constantly coming up to ask us things and were very surprised (but mostly pleasently surprised, I must say) that we were a couple and a long-term one at that. Of course we're Lesbians. Perhaps it's different for us? Actually straight bars are just as rife with people looking for each other; it's just that we're used to seeing it more. Blessings.

It really doesn't have anything to do with being gay. It has to do with how men and women think differently about sex. It's much easier for men to separate love from sex than it is for a woman. It's much easier to get a man into bed than a woman. Guys can have a one night stand and get off with someone just on the basis of being physically attracted to the person whereas women usually need some kind of emotional attachment to the person. If it were easier to get women in bed just for sex you can bet that straight men would be more promiscuous.

I don't think that's true at all. I think it's more over that gay males are probably more open about their promiscuity than straight males.
Women in general, this includes lesbians, are naturally more monogamous. Not all, but most.
I know quite a few straight males who are more promiscuous than most of the gay males I know. But this is only a personal account, I can't say it's true or not true for everyone.

Let me ask, is promiscuity the real issue? All I can see is the availability factor... If women were as sexually willing as men, I don't see that there would be much of a difference at all. As it stands many guys, straight or gay, given the opportunity to have sex will do so, the only difference is that gay men are able to find willing partners on a regular basis.

The male gay community consists of men. Men, in American culture, are encouraged to be promiscuous. If a girl got it on with everyone in a bar, she would be a "****" and most guys wouldn't touch her with a ten foot pole. With men, on the other hand, sex is viewed as manly, and anything but degrading. Only on the long run, as gay and straight men age, do they realize that they, too, can be used. But for most young guys, they aren't reprimanded by society, so they do what they've been encouraged to do for hundreds of years: have a lot of sex.

Over simplifying it a bit, the answer should be obvious. Men statistically are more promiscuous than women. That's not to say all men are promiscuous and all women are not, but overall.
This applies to gay and straight. But with gay men, there is not the counterbalance of a less promiscuous gender.
Lesbians of course can not be lumped into this generalization. And sexual mores for straights are changing rapidly in younger generations (gen x and y) so that this observation will may not be valid in 10 or 20 years. Add to that the emergence of legal marriages and civil unions, there is a pendulum move in opposite direction for gay men.

Picture it, Sicily 1942...
We, as gay or bisexual don't have time for the bullshit, like heteros. Since people think we don't have principles, already just for the fact of being gay, I guess we dont care. And besides that I guess everyone these days live in such a rush that we think we are going to die tomorrow. I don't think there is a contest in who will get some, first... the gays or the heteros. You'll see it at the same level these days

I don't know. I think that strights sleep around just as much as any gays to. Straights have people who sleep around all the time and spread STD's, and then there are people who stay committed. Just like in the gay community there are people who are gay that sleep around too, and may spread STD's and then there are gay's that stay in a comitted monogomous relationship. I hate the sterotype on gays's that they are more promiscuous, cause just as many straights are too.

I'm not so sure the gay community is more promiscuous. As I bi man I get exposed to both gay and straight communities, I'd be hard pressed to agree to this.

I wonder why so many people believe this? and you're gay yourself? I don't see that any gays/lesbians that I know are any more promiscuous than straight people. in fact, I know more straight people that are promiscuous.
