also its an odd word - where does it come from - hiccup.

A hiccup comes from the diaphragm being irritated. Your doctor could prescribe something if this really persists for a long time. In the meantime, try some of the wives tales. Hold your breath and drink a glass of water. A teaspoonful of sugar. Have someone scare you. That is all I can think of.

hiccup is onamatapaic..ie. the word sounds like the noise, like moo or woof....

How to get rid of hiccups...drink a glass of water really reeally slowely, never stoppping...at some point you will feel like you are about to drown, keep drinking through this feeling and the hiccups will be gone instantly...works evreytime for me!!

block your nose and drink a whole glass of water without stopping... it works!

hiccup IS a word, it derives from the late 16th century word 'hiccough' that rose from association with the word cough.

Put your hand on your tummy. Right under your ribs in the middle of your ribs and press down lightly. Lean forward just a little and take deep breaths. Press down when breathing in and up when out.

Drink a few cups of water,or,let It go away on It's own.It ONLY last,for about like,less than 30 minutes.

comes from the word 'cough'
it is spelt 'Hiccough'...not Hiccup!

you can try holding your breath for 30 secs OR drink plenty of water (it works for me!)
