Theatre can be traced back to those cavemen who acted out hunting scenes, thus hoping to win the gods favour for a successful hunt.

In seeing the answer Adam and Eve,,, but having no real proff of that particular TRUTH,,, I do offer this,,, and it seems not only likely but logical.

Certainly not in the strict formal sense,,, BUT,,, Consider Prehistoric man.

At some point in evolution, Man had to craft fire, and hunt. I'll set up the scene. Forgive me if this seems sarcastic... it is not meant to offend you or your Q.

Curtain goes up:

(The scene, a cave, and it's just after Sunrise)

Og steps out of the cave, rubbing his belly, grumbling (He's Hungry)
Mrs. Og emerges, holding her arms around her body, shivering (She's cold)
In a dialogue, we likely can't interpret, and without subtitles, the two make their point to each other

OG: "I'm really Hungry... I wish Burger King would hurry and open a location near us."

Mrs OG: "I'm really cold, I wish "you'd" go out and get me a fur coat, like the "woolies" wear, that you always seem to come home "without"

OG: "Not today Missus,,, I invented a new weapon."
(Og holds up a large rock)

Og leaves the scene, and Mrs. Og, being the more evolved, begins rubbing two sticks together, just for something to do.

A few minutes pass,,, in a theatrical sense and OG returns to the cave site, dragging a kill.

Upon entering the scene his nose twitches, and he sees an astounding thing. Mrs OG has crafted a "Fire"

Mrs OG: "Look, OG, I am warm now."

Og in his confusion and fear, drops the kill, causing it to land in the fire.

Mrs. OG: "OH NO OG,,, look what you've done, all my work, slaving today while you were out with the boys. Now I'll be cold again."

The fire however does not go out. In fact a new smell assails their noses, that of "roast beast" Both seem curious, but the fragrance is one they both enjoy.

Og: "OH NO look what you made me do. I spent all day hunting."

Mrs OG pulls the beast from the fire, and in the process a piece comes away from the leg, now COOKED! She tastes it, as she too is hungry.

Mrs OG: "OOOOOO OG,,, you have to try this." (she pulls off a section and hands it to OG, who gulps it down) (As she does so she notices that she can pull away the skin and fur)

OG: "YUMMMMMMMMMM! Put it back on the fire Missus."

Final scene before curtain falls.

Both OG and Mrs. OG sit, comfortably around the fire, eating cooked food. As they enjoy both new experiences, each begins to relate thair day, and the discoveries. They use whatever language they have, and gestures with hands and bodies to share the days events. When the fire becomes embers, Mrs. OG takes Ogs hand and together they enter the cave, both wrapped in the beasts fur (invention of the blanket,,,and later, clothing)

Curtain!

Hence the beginning of ACTING,,, and from my view, just at the top of a nearby hill,,, The First Play has been offered.
