absolutely everyone lives by some sort of moral code or everyone has values that they fail or succeed to live by either through laziness or ignorance or good upbringing, or the many other things that give impetus to our positive or negative attitudes towards being good members of society.
if i came across someone lying in the street, i'd assess the situation and see if there was anything I could do. The lazy man's option would be to assume they're tired and needed sleep or have recently or (otherwise) been made homeless or that the ambulance are already on their way.
I have morals and values that I live by. I think I abide by them fairly successfully but it's only because I made a conscious choice to do so and because I saw that there would be some benefit to myself and how I wish to be seen by and relate to other people.

I try to live by the Commandments. If a person just believes in doing the right thing, then following the golden rule, would be guidance on having values. Most of have a conscience, and we know right from wrong.
In your example of seeing a person lying in the street, I would try to find out if they are ok, then if they appeared to be in serious trouble, I'd call 911 and get them the help they need. Because of my morals or values of human life, I would also pray for them.

I would walk on by! Here's why: I am not trained to help him. If he is hurt and I cause more damage I may be sued in court. There are good Samaritan laws to protect those who help others but the laws are not very effective. I would walk by and call the police or an ambulance from across the street.

Avoid morals or values; they are set by society and society changes - "Greed is good!" - Gordon Gecko! ???. ('So 80's, darling'). Try going for principles instead - you set them, they work for you (oh, yes! and they need to be legal - sorry about that!)
What street?; time of day?; description of person?; area? Confusing isn't it? Circumstance - actions - different?
Talk to an old person; find out how they got that far!

Yes. Everybody has their own, only differs how high or low they're living by.
As for someone who's on the street, I'll follow my instinct first. If he really looks he needs help I'll stop & check. If he looks suspicious or just pretending(nowadays..who knows if just a gimmick) of course I'll just walk away.

i live by "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and it works for me but i just wish others would consider living by that also!!!!
and yes i have gone out of my way to help alot of other people but i usually end up the one getting crapped on because i get taken advantage of!!!!!! I have been told too many times that i have too big of a heart......i really don't see that as a problem though!!!!!!

I think that everyone has their own set that they live by, for me I always try to respect other people and be nice to them. I also think as far as relationships go you should always wait until you know a person b4 sleeping with them !
