there are so many talented singer in this country and yet most filipinos don't even bother to clap their hand when being entertained by these artist, however they seemed to be very amused by manny pacquiao's singing prowess, ( as if a can of sardines is being torn apart by drunkards ). where is this country going to, you only need to be famous, even with a voice as sweet as a frog and these people will certainly fall for you.

Some don't know any better then to go along with the crowd . Others have no ability to judge music . Some like you appreciate the artists trying to make a name for themselves , that have talent but don't get the applause .
Remember also some clap and make noise , some listen to the music and smile .

The problem with us is that we expect too much from these singers. Though they have already delivered their best, we expect them to do more since they are known as singers. Also, pride can also be blamed for this. Being a country of so many talented people, most in the audience would prefer not to show their admiration and appreciation of the performers' talents since they, themselves, are also talented. Think of bloated egos... This is the time that most Filipinos become hypocrites.

On the other hand, others become simply dumb without them knowing it like in the case of Manny Pacquiao's singing prowess, or lack of it. Though his voice seems to be a can of sardines being torn apart as you have said, they tend to be very amused and mesmerized by his 'ability'. The reason for that is simple. Filipinos didnt expect him to be a recording 'star' since is better known in the field of boxing than singing yet he was able to release his own album. They admire him for that thus, it is expected that he'll be applauded.

Filipinos are no more dumb nor hypocrite as any other citizen in the world concerning music.

It is, as has already been sad, a matter of acquired taste.

To make a point, who is a better singer: Frank Sinatra, Beyonce, Pavarotti, Gary Valenciano, Usher, Eminem, Ray Charles, or Mick Jagger?

If you can answer that, maybe you can find a satisfactory answer to your question.

Or maybe you can post your list and lets see how many people will agree with your list.

But Filipinos do like to ride the winner bandwagon. Convenient, or insecure even, but not dumb nor hypocrites. But people love winners, specially the glamorous, as much like the time the world gives more applause for Michael Jordan than Mother Theresa.

Why do many human beings imagine that Filipinos are dumb? perchance they're only insecure. don't be insecure because you'll commit Envy. also, they imagine that Filipinos are lazy. Why is it that in my study, this has no longer occurred: if Filipinos are lazy, why do not we make something like a loopy device that immediately transports us to anyplace we choose? (note: it really is a sturdy product theory; listen, listen! inventors). i'm a Filipino at inaamin ko na hindi ako matalino; a minimum of di ako gumagamit ng Google translator. Filipinos are born sensible, that is why we do not choose many years of education (note: it truly is the approach of a loser). we are no longer lazy (a minimum of, no longer each and every person). that is why there are a selection of human beings (OFW) who're suffering in different international places. Filipinos might want to no longer take delight in putting forward that different international places are better ideal and that in straight forward words loopy politics makes our usa loopy. And maximum of all: WHY DO different international places imagine THAT FILIPINOS ARE DUMB? Please re-submit your question with the grammatical mistakes corrected, like the only above. perchance, you would get some intense solutions. thanks for sharing your thoughts. I, too, am a Pinoy. Ipinanganak, nakatira, at posibleng dito na rin mamamatay sa ating lupang sinilangan - ang tahanan ng ating lahi.

Think it's about social behavior. Singers who are paid for their talents are expected to render their best performance. No mediocre performance is appreciated. They have to be always their best. Remember when Pavarotti rendered a concierto in Manila. It was fuke. He was not at his best that time. Many Filipinos were disappointed.
Now, I tell you my own story. I have a good singing voice, diction and perfect vocal for old time hits. I sang my piece during social gathering in the office. After my rendition, only a handful of people clap their hands. When it's our Director's turn to sing, everybody clapped their hands, stumped their feet, loud cheers. After one song, others shouted for an encore. Another song.
I was disappointed because I believe I sing better than our Director. I can sing his songs better than he did.

Now, how do you call it?

It seems to me that Filipinos are more impressed with a family name than talent, skills or qualifications. They are more led by their emotions than reason. They will elect actors to govern their country when these people do not have the ability to manage their own personal lives. I love the charisma of the Marcos Family, but I would never elect them to a public office, pay money to see them act or model, purchase their clothing or pay homage to them as if they are holy people considering they had stolen billions of dollars from my people but the Filipinos do. People are starving in the country yet the Mayors and Council (Manila, Quezon) decide not to make Pacquaio pay local taxes on his income from the fight while Pacquaio spends over 6000 dollars at one store for clothes in the U.S.A. I bet he paid sales tax on the purchase he made abroad.

Do not generalize. Manny Pacquiao did not become famous because of singing but because of boxing. Filipinos know that he has no singing talent but they admire him anyway. I wanted to say more but: Very well said, pingnavarro. =)

I know the frustration and pain that you are feeling, but I think your question may be okay if discussed among close friends or 'classmates'. Since Y!A is almost a universal phenomenon and chances are that people from other country would unnecessarily get a negative impression about you and your countrymen.

We have similar experience in almost all the developing countries of Asia where people would love anything offered by the developed nations. What you will call people of Bangladesh in these days when one of our men Prof. Dr. Yunus has been nominated for Nobel Peace Prize - 2006, our politicians are fighting pitched battle to go to the power. These very old-fashioned politicians and their followers are going to the offices and residences of foreign diplomats stationed in our capital city Dhaka for getting their 'advice' as to how they can bring 'peace' in our country. What an irony of fate.

I am sorry that my reply may be a bit of digression from your question, but you can change the country's name to any of the other developing country of this part of the world and the output would remain almost the same.

Therefore, please try to do something by yourself to bring a change in the mentality of the people. Incidentally, this evening our Dr. Yunus was given civic-reception by Dhaka City Corporation where he gave a very dynamic speech and direction to the major political parties those may change the scenario of chaos to peace, if adhered by the major pol-parties. Hope Dr. Yunus gets another accolade for his current initiative and leaders from your country can also think in similar strategies.

Best of luck!

Instead of answering this question, I am opting not to curse our nation and fellow countrymen because the adjectives you have given are both negative.

Choosing between the two is a no-win situation and would only lead to the proliferation of thinking that Filipinos are either of the two.

We are far more than what others perceived us to be...

i think ur not filipino.. coz most of us appreciate talented people who really know how to sing, many people idolize manny pacquiao because he came from the masses.. he had a dream and thru hard work and determination he has succeeded in his efforts. by the way, his being meek and humble has blessed him. so why don't you do the same, instead of finding fault / weakness in other people. maybe you should look at yourself first before you judge people. makarma ka sana!!!!
