My 3 month old always wants to pull the blanket over her face when she is sleeping. I don't get much sleep anymore because I am constantly getting up to check on her. I have tried turning out all the lights because I thought maybe it could be the lamp bothering her and she still pulls it over her head and pretty much tucks it under her chin. Any suggestions? Because I am terrified of her doing this

I have been a mom for 27 years. I have 4 kids. I have also been a licensed home child care provider for 20 years. One of my own children and numerous babies I have cared for like to sleep with something covering their faces. It is interesting that you mention that your daughter will only wear the soft blanket sleepers. Everyone of the children I know who like to sleep with something over their faces also have clothing issues. Several had to have the tags cut out of their clothes before they would wear them (the tag-less clothing is great!). Two, one boy and one girl, wouldn't wear any socks because the seams on the toes always gave them fits. One little girl learned early how to remove her clothing and preferred to run around in a diaper and t-shirt regardless of the weather. I am inclined to think that the preference to sleep with their face covered is just a tactile sensitivity. You can use a blanket for warmth for her, but cover her only from the waist down. Over her chest, cover her with a lightweight cloth diaper (not the prefolded kind), a burp cloth, a cloth handkerchief, a cheaper (try the dollar store) receiving blanket, or a crib sheet cut into small squares. These are all thing that different children have used for satisfying the need for a face covering. If she can pull this up over her face on her own, she will not suffocate. By the time she gets to be about 6 months old you'll be able to put her down, cover her face with her special cloth and she'll go to sleep. If you are worried about her keeping warm enough, you can use a baby sleep sack or use long-sleeved onesies under her blanket sleeper or even light-weight pajamas under her blanket sleeper. Flannel crib sheets are also nice for warmth.

Try putting her to bed without the blanket. She seems to be dressed warmly enough, so she may not need a blanket at all. We tend to do things out of habit. Going to bed with a blanket is a habit for us because we usually need them. However, I remember rarely using the blanket during the pregnancy because I was sooo HOT. As long as baby is warm, a blanket isn't needed.

I also read somewhere that placing baby at the foot of bed with blanket securely tucked under mattress ensures that baby can't get lost in it or scoot down under it.

Try swaddling her at night with the blanket, or maybe tucking the blanket really tight down the sides of the mattress. If those don't work, maybe just try to find a smaller lighter blanket that is very breathable and not so easy to suffocate with.
My son was the same way, a had to use a recieving blanket only at night and I just turned up the heat and dressed him warmer at night so he didn't get cold.
I feel your worry, I't scared me too.

Our son kept doing that until a couple months ago, he is 9 months now, and doesn't do it anymore. We just dressed him warmly at night, and took the blanket away. I made sure he wasn't cold and was still cozy. It seemed to work fine. But I was worried about him when sleeping, so we bought a video moniter. It is like the regular moniters that you can buy to hear them cry, but the piece that you put in the babys room is a camera piece, and then you have a little moniter that you can watch them on, and hear what they are doing. I LOVED it, and I stopped using it recently as he is getting older. It works wonders, and does set you at ease. We bought ours at Walmart in the baby section.

I suggest you get a baby suit that is like a blanket but not. My baby is three months old as well and you can put this suit on her and wrap it up so that her arms are inside, and she will be warm but wont be able to use her hands. My baby has also started eating her blankets and putting them in her mouth, Not over her nose though. Mabye you can give her a soother to distract her.

Both my daghters are doing it (3yrs and 2 and half mo), the feel of something touching their face makes them feel comfortable. I foud it is actually good think - in the future, when you are somwhere, maybe traveling and you need your baby to go to sleep, just give it to her and she'll know it's time to sleep.

As for your fear - I bought them cloth diapers (not instead of diapers but as a BLANKET :-))), they are very light and have LOT of pores between the thread, so even when they pull it over tehi fece they'll be ok. Actually, I cut it in quarters (and hem the sides of course) for the little baby, so she never manages to cover her entire face.

Try a wearable blanket. They are pricey but so worth it. They can't pull them over their heads. I still use one for my 1 year old as he will not keep a blanket on him.

I got a Halo blanket at TJ Maxx for $6.00. Also try Marshalls. Good Luck.

Try a Halo Sleep Sack. It''s a wearable blanket. They are what I use for my 4 month old daughter and they work great.

Have you tried layering her clothing instead of giving her a blanket? A onesie under her PJ's?

It may just be that she is moving around in her sleep more now.
