Because humour where people get hurt (but not badly) is still the funniest. It's visual and it's universal. Think of how your friends laugh when you fall over (or you at them) as long as they don't injure themselves.

It gives us our 'slapstick' comedy fix! Movies in our times don't use 'slapstick' anymore, unless it's a kick in the balls...lol Before our time, slapstick was very popular as were the Kings of Slapstick, The Three Stooges. And not forget Jerry Lewis, Laurel & Hardy, Lucille 'Lucy' Ball, etc... We just don't get movies with their kind of comedy anymore. (Well, we did have 'Laverne & Shirley':-). Now, our replacement for slapstick are the 'superpowers' of our movie heroes, i.e. X-men, Superman, Batman, etc.. So, every now and then, the movie producers that be, throw us a little 'kick in the balls' just to remind us there IS other comedy out there. ;-)
