When I passed all the tests I don't remember hearing it would be a 6 month assignment. When you think temporary you think ok iif I do good they'll keep me. But now I'm shocked because I'm afraid I won't have an income in 6 months. I was told if I do good I'll be put on a good list and they decide what to do from there. Yikes. Any suggestions? What should I do? HELP! I'm trying to rent out a place but now I may not be able to.

The downside of this job is that there are no medical benefits for temp workers, and I commute an hour everyday.

But the main reason I'm there is because it pays double what I used to get paid.

There are no guarantees with a temp job. Lots of companies dangle the carrot of permanent employment to keep their temps in line. They may or may not hire you permanently.

From being a recruiter, I can tell you this. If you work hard, don't miss work, get good reports from your supervisor, the temp service will find you another job when this one ends. Just be careful of becoming a permanent temp, that does happen.

Work for a few months, increase your skills, then, while still working, look for a permanent job if it is obvious that your temp assignment is not going to go permanent.

Good luck & congrats on the raise!

Keep doing a good job, you never know they may keep you on. But if I were you I'd start looking for a new job quick. There is nothing else you can do, everything else is water under the bridge, next time get everything in writing, then you might have a leg to stand on.
